An old maid? I think not!

As I sit down to eat my lunch, my eyes gaze to the headline in the newspaper:

More BC Mom over 35 having babies.

Great, good to know that having a baby past your 30’s is not a deterrent based on age.

Then I read this line:

"These OLDER moms face riskier pregnancy".

EXCUSE ME? OLDER?

I am 34 freakin’ years old, not 80 (not even that is old…I think 99 is old )

So now I’m insulted.  I am now an old woman? Considered by who? The writer? The general  population?

I understand that the basis of the article is on medical fact.  Yes, my little eggies are not as youthful as they once were a mere 4 years ago but I’d hardly say I’m ‘old’.  Right, older.  The phrase just rubs me the wrong way.

I plan on having more children, hopefully in the nearer future cause as the feature explains, time is of the essence. However just short of running off to sperm donor clinic, this single Mama Independant Parent is going to wait to find the right man and go the ‘traditional’ route and get married beforehand (blah blah blah) or maybe I won’t.  Who knows but at least I still have my youthful looks.

Dear 34+ year old womanly friends of mine, how do you feel about being called 'Older'??
