Gymboree Intro Class

In my search for free/low-cost activities Mason and I could experience, I came across Gymboree Play & Music.  The closest location was Coquitlam, so I signed us up for their free intro class via their website.  There are five locations in the lower mainland.    They sent us two reminders and a follow up phone call to ensure we didn't forget.  They also told me to bring socks (the kids are placed on a gym mat).

I found the Gymboree place quite easily (right on Barnet Hwy) and showed up just as a class was finishing up.  The kids were between 16 - 22 months and it was cute to watch them run around.  The instructor blew some small bubbles around which I found later contained some sort of glue which made them stick to the surface they landed on.  This was cool! You could pick up the little bubbles!

Finally it was time for class, Mason and I sat on the mat while the other parents joined us.  There were 7 babies in total, 6 boys and 1 girl.  The kids were in the 6 -8 months range, maybe one or two was older but I didn't get a chance to ask.  Our Instructor Heather started off with a song and led us into bouncing, rocking and singing with our babies.  She then brought out some 'rockers' for us to teeter-totter with the tots and then brought out some gym equipment.

The class went fairly fast and Mason enjoyed parts of it but unfortunately not all of it.  Not entirely sure if it was because of his eczema or if he didn't like being bounced/swayed/carried about.  I had to pull out the binky just to calm him down a bit.  I enjoyed seeing the other babies and chatting briefly with the parent(s).   I wish there was more of a social aspect to it, what I really need is a good play group!  My friend Chad brought his little guy, Austin who is a week or so older than Mason.  It was neat to see the difference in size and development between the two.

Class was over and Chad and I had a quick conversation with the Instructor about membership etc.  The classes aren't cheap and am not sure if this is worth our money.  Mason is already signed up for swim lessons next month.
