Normally I post the funny things Mason says on Facebook but he said something today that I want to remember always.
We were in the bathroom and while the tub was filling up with water, I had noticed he had put in a truck that was battery operated. I didn't panic because a) it had no batteries in it and b) he had left it out in the rain last summer and it malfunctioned and probably does not work anyhow.
After giving him a reminder that we don't put toys that take batteries in the tub, he got a bit quiet. Assuring him that I wasn't mad that I was only teaching him, I picked him up to give him a hug. While I was facing the mirror I was admiring him. My tiny 7lb 2 oz baby who was 21 inches long is now over 30lbs and 41 inches long!
I got a bit teary and said aloud, "How did my baby get so big?" to which Mason replied, "I grew! I am a big boy now" and I said I knew. I then said, "I miss my little baby boy" to which Mason replied smiling, "He isn't gone, he's in your heart".
OMG instant tears. There isn't any other way to understand what he said other than how he meant it. I told him he was right, the baby Mason will always be in my heart and that I love the big boy that he has become. It was one of those Kodak moments I wish I had on video and I'll always cherish those words.
Almost four years old and wise beyond his years.
