What no one told me about being a new Mum

As I was out driving, I was thinking about how I tired I am and some of the things I have experienced over the past 18 days (Mason is 18 days old!) and thought that I'd blog a list so I can chuckle years down the road and of course share the list with my preggo readers!

What no one told me about being a new Mum

  • How much I'd hate wearing a bra 24/7, not to mention a bra AND underwear to bed.  This really sucks if you like sleeping in the nude.

  • How hard breastfeeding really is.  I figured 'How hard can it be?' I have two huge boobs, they seem to have functioning nipples.  My son is hungry.  Here we go!  Mind you there are other Mum's that struggle(d) a lot more than I do (mastitis, no milk supply etc).  It's only been 3 weeks and I've already started a modified b-feed routine which consists of expensive formula, pumping and trying to get baby enough milk out of my breast.

  • Any leftover formula/breast milk must be thrown away.  What a waste!

  • Some babies sleep effortlessly during the day but get super fussy during the night.  What's up with that!?

  • The list of essentials that you find online is really inaccurate!  (Will post a list in another blog)

  • To keep soiled clothing/toys/etc away from the Dog.  The Dog finds these yummy and will destroy them! [In 3 weeks Hershey has eaten a rec. blanket, a binky, a mitten and a shirt]

  • Babies need to be burped from day one! I figured that since the baby was only 'drinking' colostrum, there wasn't any need!  Poor baby.

  • The newborn disposable diapers don't stay on well

  • The Vitamin D liquid is awful! It's too thick for baby to swallow.  Buy the 'one drop' kind that you can put on your nipple/soother instead.

  • If you aren't a new Mum but want to help out someone that is, offer your help for a day.  Even if it's loading the dishwasher or taking the dog for a walk, this is a HUGE help.  Not everyone can be as lucky as me to have your Inlaws on call!

  • Your appearance is no longer a concern after giving a birth.  Daily showers are put off every second day, makeup is stored in a cupboard, clothes are an option - a housecoat is your new wardrobe and a pony tail is your new hairdo

  • You get used to being barfed on and have no problem picking boogers out of your baby's nose.  Not to mention getting poo/pee on you during diaper changes.

  • That you will get frustrated with your wardrobe!  Your pre-preg clothes will not fit and neither do your preggo clothes.  Like I have time to go shopping for new clothes that may not fit me in the next few months.

  • Your body sensors will be off; I constantly forget to eat and to pee!

  • The amount of laundry you will do on a daily basis! It doesn't end!!

  • The days go so quickly and the nights are soooo soooo long

  • Go Back
