Baby's aren't free!

So with our impending arrival comes a lot of shopping and with that comes a lot of baby accessories!  I made a list of the must haves which I haven't looked at since.  The key items are going to be our first purchases and I've done a lot of online 'window shopping' but the choices are endless and the prices can be shocking (seriously, who needs a $3000 crib?).  We started out at one baby fair in Victoria and went to our 2nd that was hosted at Canada Place, downtown.  Most of the same type of displays, hosts staring at you for conversation and lots of entry forms for prizes (My favorite part - free is good!).  Clayton bought a little wood sign that reads 'Monkey' for the baby as that's sorta become his first nickname.

Other than that we just looked around and left with a case formula complimentary of Nestle which I will donate to the foodbank cause they need it more than I do!  Backtracking a bit...Friday night was awesome, Clayton and I spent some quality time after work, first with AUCE sushi which I haven't been able to consume in ages as my appetite hasn't been that great.  Well it's back and it's back with a vengance!  I initially lost 7lb -/+ from 0-5 months, then in the last 2 weeks I gained close to 7lbs which is evident with the rounded belly.  I think it's great, my little man is getting bigger in there!  Luckily the weight gain didn't attack any other part of my body :)  After dinner we went to the library and I stocked up on reading material which I'll take with me to Mexico (we leave on Friday).  Exciting times!

Some of the titles I picked up:

  • The Working Gal's guide to Babyville - Your must have manual for life with baby by Paige Hobey

  • The Baby Owner's Manual by Louis Borgenicht, M.D. (which is written like a computer manual - hilarious!)

  • Breastfeeding for DUMMIES by Sharon Perkins, RN (love these books, I"m half way done this one and it contains great info)

  • Raising Baby Green - The Earth friendly guide to pregnancy, childbirth and baby care by Alan Green, M.D

  • Yesterday was Baby Fair day and after we were finished there, we had a nice lunch at Elephant and Castle (I didn't know they were still around, thought they went out of bizness).  Then we headed off to TJ Kids which is a baby/toddler store chain in BC.  www.tjskids.com The location we went to in kits was quite small but was packed loaded with baby/toddler everything.  If I was rich, I'd be poor by the time we left there!

First purchase was a Zooper stroller (Model - Boogie 2007) which we got half off!  This stroller was recommended by Ludy and Ryan and it had the 3 giant wheels that Clayton was wanting.

Second purchase was an impulse buy but figured we needed it.  Baby car seat - Graco.  Looking at the reviews it appears we bought a 'one step' system which is best for babies but not so much for an older child so we may have to return it.

The stroller was a floor demo so we got to push it out of the store with the car seat in a box on top, reality hit at that moment "oh wow, we are going to be parents!". :)

Today was a bit more mellow, I didn't get much sleep so we slept in a bit and then headed out to take a look at a new table for our dining room as we don't have one.  We saw one in the flyer for United Furniture Warehouse that we liked and went to the store to take a look and bought it.  I love new stuff lol.

So now it's catching up on laundry and relaxing before work tomorrow, at least its a short work week for me!  Hola Mexico!!!

May not have a blog this coming weekend so I'll catch up with you the following weekened.

PS we are at 6 months tomorrow, baby boy is growing and time is flying!
