Toopy & Binoo & the Marshmallow Moon

I think when I saw the advert for Toopy & Binoo live in Concert, I was more excited than Mason was!  I'm always looking for new and fun things to do together as a family.  As soon as the tickets were available, I snapped up 3 ($25 each) and told Mason that he was going to the show.  The downside is that I bought them in June so he had to wait a while to go!

Finally it's Saturday and Mason is all geared up to go!  Last minute he ran into his bedroom and came out looking like this!

The venue was at The Centre for the Performing Arts downtown Vancouver.  We opted to take the skytrain so I didn't have to worry about parking fees although the parking lot near the Centre isn't all that expensive.  The skytrain from N Bby was $2.50 son total it costs us $10.00 round trip (Masey was free).  Mason likes the skytrain ride, he has taken a fascination with photography and asks to use my camera often.  He is careful with it but I think I'm going to get him a digital camera for kids for Christmas.  Some of the pictures he takes are awesome!  Here is one he took of his Father's eye..

I was a bit confused on where we were actually going.  I thought it was the Queen E Theatre and then I thought it was a the CBC building and then finally I used my GPS and realized that I hadn't been to 'The Theatre' before.  We ended up walking around an entire block but I'm not known for my superb navigational skills...

Once we walked up the street, kids and parents were everywhere and a line was quickly forming.  Armed with our tickets, we waited for the doors to open.

Luckily our timing was good and we didn't wait too long.  Then we flooded in with the others and I had to take a minute and laugh because of the chaos.  While Mason & Daddy hit the washrooms, I watched the zillion families make their way up the stairs to their seats.  There was an ATM with a long lineup (Souvenirs were cash only), a small concession with candy (like kids needed that) and water and free booster seats.  So I nabbed on of those for Masey.  There are three floors and we were on the second.  Our seats were fantastic (Section DC, Row B, Seat 13e, 4, 5).  Right in the middle and 3 rows from the balcony.

A sea of cell phones glowed while Children fidgeted and we waited patiently for the theme song to start.  The show itself was very entertaining, the skits weren't too long and there were a ton of characters.  I like shows that have more singing but Toopy & Binoo are more about adventures and imagination rather than music.

Unfortunately my camera is a bit old now and the pictures weren't as clear as I would have liked them to be but you get the point...

By an hour and a half, I was ready for it to be done.  The kids were getting antsy and at times the sound was too loud.  A few times the speaker screeched which drew moans from all of us.  Ouchy ears.  The characters did an encore skit and it was done and we rushed for the door.  Chaos resumed and finally we were out on the street.  Back on the skytrain and back home.

Great little concert!
