Swimmin' at Eileen Dailly

I have to admit it’s been a while since Mason and I last went swimming.  I do like the pool but it’s a lot of prep work to get organized to go and the thought of having to squish myself in a bathing suit in the fall isn’t that exciting.

Today was a beautiful fall day and I thought a great day to go on another adventure so off we went.

I located their profile on the Burnaby.ca website and confirmed their address.  Just off Willingdon / Hastings.  Tons of free parking and the entrance was easy to find.  Tonight we joined the Family Swim at a very low cost.  I was $2.77 and Mason was .98 cents totalling $4.10 including tax.  I brought a quarter with me for the locker.  The swim was on from 5pm-8pm and we arrived just after 6.

We were given two wrist bands and a code on paper for the family showers.  The Family Change room is between the Women and Men’s washroom.  It wasn’t over crowded with people and had ample lockers, showers and space.   We quickly showered (showers are warm) and I noticed they have liquid soap dispensers (it could be shampoo too but I’d probably not put it in my hair.

Mason was pretty excited at this point to head into the water.  So we went into the main swimming area and I had a look around.  The adult pool is on the left, offering a huge waterslide.

The waterslide is not offered to children under 5 (even with Adults riding with them.)  Children 6-7 years old must have an adult (16 years and older) in the landing pool to receive them. Anyone 8 years and older may use the waterslide alone.

A Whirlpool and sauna are also on this side of the room.

A gradual entrance in the middle and the toddler/shallow pool (which graduates to deep towards to west side of the pool).

There were a few buckets with random pool toys but not as much as I’ve seen at other pools.  Life Jackets were available but Mason didn’t want one.  There are a few ‘pole’ things in the center of the pool which I’m assuming are water fountains but they weren’t on.

While we were splashing around, Mason’s buddy Ryan showed up with his Mommy Mel and we had swimming playmates! Mason and Ryan go to the same daycare so they are good friends.

We had fun on a budget but would probably choose another pool to go to for more varied pool toys and activities to do while in the pool.

As we left we noticed a sign offering free swimming!  Only on the FIRST Sunday of every month from 1230 – 230pm.  Courtesy of Westminster Savings. Offer expires on Dec 31, 2011.
