Choo Choo ride

I knew today was going to be a great sunny day and didn’t want to waste it by doing chores inside.  The plans were to head to the Burnaby Central Railway near Confederation Park.  I tried to go last year but it was closed.  We drove by yesterday and the trains were full speed ahead!

The Burnaby Central Railway is at the northern end of Confederation Park.  The easiest way to find Confederation Park is to go along Hastings Street and turning north on Willingdon Avenue.  The exact address is at 120 North Willingdon, about 5 blocks north of Hastings Street.

So we headed out the door shortly after 11:30 (the gates opened at 11am) and I parked in the parking lot adjacent to the grounds (free).  I didn’t bother bringing a stroller as it wasn’t a large area.  We paid at the concession; free for Masey and $2.50 for me.  What a deal!!  I asked how long the wait was and she replied 10 minutes.  I said that’s a half hour in Toddler world.  Lol.

We got in line and the first half got to go right away (which upset Mason) but we only stood there for maybe 3 mins before they took us on another train (bonus!).  We sat on the cushy seat on the train and was told the ‘rules’ by the Conductor.  Feet in on the runner at all times, keep your hands in, no leaning or standing and keep still.

Away we go!

The train went around the property two times through tunnels over bridges, Mason looked like he was enjoying the ride but didn’t say much.  I’d say the whole trip was about 10 mins.  I overheard a family stating that the other train was a bit faster.  I don’t know if that would really make a difference in enjoyment.

Mason requested pizza for lunch but the concession only had hotdogs and fries and treats like popsicles (and not much else).  So we headed out, took a few more pictures and headed home.

If you want to go the railway is open weekends and holidays from 11 am to 5 pm May to October.  Phone 604-291-0922 to get the exact details.  Website: www.bcsme.org

They also allow birthday parties and one was being held while we were there.  Th ey had a covered area on the other side of the tracks (private) that had picnic tables and grass. This would be fun for Mason but they aren’t open in Feb.  So now I need an excuse to throw a summer party!

Oh and they also have a large grassy area you could have your own picnic (bring a beach blanket).
