Cat in the Hat

 Cat in the Hat!

Woohoo! Another live show for Mason to go to.  As soon as I saw the ad, I went to see what shows were available on their website.

This was a smaller production at a theatre that I hadn't heard of and figured it was downtown.  The show is running from February 23  – March 31, 2013 and I bought tickets for today's show.

The ticket prices were a bit high:

Adult $29.00, Senior/Student $25.00, Child (any age) $15.00.  They did not allow kids to sit on parents laps, they must purchase a seat. The website allows you to 'pick' your seats much like Ticketmaster does.

For Mason and & I +tax was $44.00.  We got great seats (4th row up on the right) and chose the 2pm show.

Once I put in the street address, I realized that the show was on Granville Island.  Free parking (hooray!).  The theatre is located in the front of the island at the Waterfront Theatre, there is some signage around.  We arrived a bit early so we killed some time at the Granville Island toy stores.

Once we headed back, it was time for a quick pee and to take our seats.  Once everyone was seated, the hostess came on stage and laid out the rules:

  1. Turn cell phones off
  2. No cameras! (boo)
  3. No videotaping

So there goes the pictures in my post!  However I did take one prior to hearing the rules:

Mason hates camera flashes so I didn't get a smile in this pic.

The show started on time and I don't think there was an empty seat in the house (a note on the main door said that the show was sold out).

There were the usual main characters: Nick, Sally, Cat, Thing 1 & 2 and two kitten.  I won't give away the story as there is only one but there were a lot of laughs from Mason and at one point bubbles fell from the ceiling (only one part of the theatre seating so we didn't get to hit them).  The act was cute and we enjoyed ourselves.

All of a sudden, all the characters came out and took a bow.  Umm huh? The show just started.  'Nick' announced they would play a game and then take questions.  I glanced at my phone to see the time.  It was 2:33.  A half hour show? Seriously?  At this point I'm not impressed.  I shelled out $44.00 for 30 mins of entertainment?

Now that the show was over, Mason wanted to hightail it out of there.  One Mom and kid quietly exited and that was our queue to head out too before the masses.

Don't get me wrong, I support the arts and I love that it was a small venue and a 'brand name' show but the price was way too high.  I went back to the website after I got home to see if I somehow missed that it was such a short show and I could not find anything indicating the end time.
