Fathers Day 2011

In addition to the awesome Father’s Day art that Mason made his Daddy at daycare, Mason also wanted to do something special.  I thought it would be a great opportunity to create some art with mason and have a treasure for Clayton to have from his Son.

So today last week headed to Cowboys & Angels a hybrid of a toy store and a ceramics studio.

There are two locations; one in Kits and one in Kerrisdale.  We chose the Kerrisdale store as we had errands to do in the same area.  We found the store quite easily as it's in the heart of Kerrisdale on 41st. it's on the North side of the road and paid parking (meters) line the street.

Walking into the store, the toy store portion is at the front, the ceramics studio at the back and the photography studio upstairs.  We headed straight to the back but then to the front as I realized I wasn't sure how to get set up.  Their helpful staff set Mason and I up at a set table with paint, brushes and stencils.  I asked for a smock but was told their paint was water soluble so no worries if Mason got it on his clothes. I was a bit worried as a Birthday party was about to start but they had that group upstairs.  I was surprised it wasn't packed for Father's Day but I guess people got their item done last week so it would be ready for tomorrow.

There are quite a few ceramics to choose from and prices ranged from $15 up (could be less but I only looked at a few).  Mason chose a guitar piece that was a little trinket dish (it had a lid).  He got started and about 10 mins later announced he was finished.  He had painted70% of the dish.  He jetted off to the Thomas the Train table they had set up in the toy section while I wandered around looking to see if I could find any deals on toys (Like he needs more...).  They carry a lot of Doug & Melissa toys.

Finally I headed to the til (empty handed) and paid for the guitar and was told it would be ready in a few days.  They took my name & number down and we were on our way.

This all took place on a Saturday and I got a call a week later on the Saturday.  I picked the gift up today (June 27) and the owner (who is a lovely British Lady) wrapped the piece up for me in heavy paper so it wouldn't break.  Just for her great customer service I wanted to spend more money in her store but unfortunately the prices were a tad too high.  The guitar is adorable, I hope Clayton likes it.
