Shake a leg!

Between Mason and I, I think I was the more excited one.  I've been counting down this day for weeks and it finally arrived.   The big blue boot was comin' off!

Our appointment was early, 8:15am so there was no sleepin' in for either of us.  A good healthy breakfast in our bellies and we were on our way to Children's Hospital.  We arrived just in time, plugged the meter and got into what I thought was the correct building (I had a map but it wasn't a very good one).  Finally I flagged a nice lady down who escorted me to the right reception desk.

We were processed quickly and sent to the waiting room.  We said hello to a girl 'Taite' in an arm cast and another boy who had a full leg cast.  Ouch.

Soon we were called to have the cast removed.  The nice Dr. gave Mason some 'Mouse Ears' to protect his hearing!

Mason whined a bit while the cast was being cut off, I guess he feared the Doc was going to cut open his leg!

Once the cast was removed, the doctor asked me if I wanted to keep it.   Yuck, no thanks.  Mason's leg was pretty stinky after being in a boot for weeks.

We were ushered to yet another waiting room for xrays and sat for a bit.  Mason was pretty patient but for a Children's hospital their waiting rooms sure are lacking in toys and things for kids to do.  I guess that's why they want to rebuild a new hospital.  I support that!

Finally we were called to the xray room and two nice ladies gave Mason a sticker while they retrained him onto a board so they could take some photos of his leg.  Mason didn't like this too much but it was over before he knew it!

Off to another waiting room to speak to the Orthapaedic Surgeon.  The room was filled with....BOYS lol.  Wow am I in for it.  There was maybe two girls that we saw during our two hours at the hospital and probably saw at least 12 boys.  I'm guessing this won't be our last trip to this clinic.

Mason was getting impatient by this time as we were put into a small private room to wait for the doctor.  There were about 8 rooms in all, all full of impatient kids.  One room had a teenager? waiting for the Doctor and she kept herself busy by snipping the ends of her hair off (split ends?) with scissors.  Weird.  Another room housed Taite and her Mom and Mason happily played with her on a baby bounceroo that I found stored under a desk.  It didn't occupy him long though and he was off to explore each of the waiting rooms and say hello.

The Doctor got to us and told me that it was great that Mason adjusted so quickly to the cast (standing and 'walking' on it within 7 hrs) and that the bone had healed quite nicely.  There was a bit of redness on Mason's ankle and a small bruise on his shin from the cast but nothing that was worth worrying about.

2hrs and 15 mins later and we were outside ready to go home!  I realized that I had only paid for an hour parking (forgot that it was 2hrs) but when I went to the paystation clerk dude, he waved me through.  Woohoo! Reduced parking.  $3.50 for two hours is good enough anyhow!

Within minutes, my crawly, stinky leg little man was sound asleep...

and after a short nap, Mommy treated Mason to a REAL bath, complete with all his toys and a purple popsicle!

Hey Monkey!

How do you feel about having your cast off?

I think he's happy :)
