Me do it!

We've really been struggling with Mason's appetite lately, it seems so up and down and I'm worried about him growing!  He's always been on the smaller side and just above under weight.  Teething obviously started this and since he's only on 2 teeth, we have a ways to go.  I started Mason on purees just a week short of 6 months and he did well.  Cereals, veggies and fruit were accepted.  But then he got fussy on which flavors.  He refused to eat corn, carrots (or purees containing carrots which is most of the veggie blends) and peas.  His favorite veggie is still green beans, sweet potatoes being a close second.  I've tried hiding the stuff he won't eat in the stuff he will but he knows and makes awful faces.  I've also tried the 'rotating' the awful stuff with the good and then he closes his lips for even the good stuff.  Fruit isn't an issue, he'll eat pretty much any of that.  Cereal is something he's gotten a bit fussy on and won't eat certain flavors.  Since Clayton feeds him breakfast, I couldn't even tell you which is his fave! I wish I had made his food from the start (will do that for baby #2)

We are now approaching one year old...he'll be 11 months tomorrow.  I think it's time to start him on finger food as he now has two teeth and is able to mash his food a bit better.  About a week ago I gave Mason his first piece of toast (mutligrain, medium toast, no crust) and he ate the whole thing! I was pretty impressed.  When you give your baby his first real solids, the choking factor does become a worry.  After that I spent a bit of time researching finger food for a 10 month old baby with only two front teeth.  I got the obvious results; pieces of fruit, toast, etc.  Then today I was shopping at London Drugs and realized I had some Toddler food coupons.  Down the baby food aisle I spotted the Gerber Graduates Puff products which is recommended for 12 months but hey 11 months is close enough!

I bought two flavors, banana and sweet potato.  When we got home from shopping he had a few of each and LOVED them.  He even picked them up from his tray and fed himself!  Way to go Masey!  I also gave him a crumbled up Baby Mum Mum which he's been eating since 6 months.  He's almost onto Toddler Mum Mums which my Mom bought before we arrived.  I tried one out and the difference is that they are round with a hard candy coating in splotches on the top.  While it was yummy, it didn't dissolve as fast.  I'm not sure he's ready for these ones yet.  Maybe in another month or two.

We'll keep on going with what we have and may try some steamed yams next week.
